                                            Sung Mass 11.00am

GOOD MORNING good people, & Welcome to the Parish Mass. How often those words have been written or said. Perhaps the word ‘parish’ isn’t heard so much. The largest parish in England is a massive 85sq miles! Somewhere in Weardale, Co. Durham, I am told. St Chad’s isn’t so big. A parish is not necessarily a Christian Area or District. It is also a civil and administrative area. Have you ever noticed the Church here does not denote either its religion or ‘denomination’ on the outside notice boards? They just give out the parish church and the Parish Mass, a name and contact details. I love that. So to each parishioner, passing through, or coming to the Sacraments, or working, or at home or can’t get out; whether they are well or ill; whatever their condition in life; we say: Good morning, good people.Do you know who used to say those words? The Mass will be celebrated for each and everyone in the parish.

What with Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Trinity & Corpus Christi it is a bit of a relief to be back in Ordinary Time again. It is a shame they didn’t think of anything a bit more poetic than ordinary time.

These ‘green’ Sundays go on now until Advent. With a few big festival days thrown in. There an old saying, Time Flies. How true. The early church had this in mind when the first mission was sent to witness to the gospel and the Lord’s teachings.

What phrase means most to you in today’s gospel reading at Mass?  Or in the first reading from Exodus..Or St Paul to the Romans? One thing is for certain it is not the worthiness of the person that brings forth God’s love. It is the overwhelming love of God that chooses us not for anything we do, but because of the immensity of that Love.
