Sung Mass 11.00am

Fifty days ago, we celebrated Easter Day. The Jewish festival of Shavuot is celebrated on the fiftieth day after Passover. The Church keeps it on a Sunday and recalls the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is sometimes called the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit, also called the Holy Ghost in the English language is the Spirit of God the Father and of Jesus Christ. In the Mass for example, the bell is rung once when the Holy Spirit is invoked to bless the gifts of bread and wine. The hands of the priest are stretched across the elements with the words: Let Your Spirit be upon these gifts to make them holy. It is known as The Epiclesis. The whole Prayer of The Mass is addressed to God the Father, Through Christ, In The Holy Spirit. Today we celebrate that we are also the gift. Our life and our love is God’s gift; we pray that God’s holiness will be given to us by the Holy Spirit. Easter-tide ends today.
